5:09 PM Chuzzwozzers Ding ding ding ding ding!!! After months of waiting I finally got to see The Boy Least Likely To this week! I strolled to the King's College students union after work to go for a couple of beers with Marigold as it's right around the corner from us, and naturally we got stopped by the security who demanded ID. Seeing as we were dressed in work clothes we couldn't exactly say we didn't have our cards on us, but they let us in on the proviso that we hooked them up with lucrative careers in bar codes when they graduated. And once we got to the bar... woah momma... £1.80 for a pint! The official party line was that it was good despite being surrounded by hippy students, though in all honesty I loved it because of that. That and the fitties. I toddled off to the Scala to see the band after that, my second time of going to a gig solo. Well, not exactly; I got chatting to a girl who was also there on her own! She was pretty cool, and it turned out that she works right around the corner from me (no, not in the students' union). First up was a band called Sologne. They were pretty good, though I couldn't tell whether the lead singer was Swedish or Irish. Then came The Little Ones, a poppy band from Mejico. We were both surprised how good the support was, and eve in BLLT didn't come on it would have been money well spent. Luckily BLLT did come on and they did a great set. The front man seemed quite aggressive with his movements, his fist pumping was more akin to a 20th century dictator than the lead singer of a twee pop band. I managed to record their cover of Faith, and also I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star: ----- Leaving do after work yesterday, and things got predictably messy. We went to Smollensky's on the Strand and sank a few, and seeing as it was Aussiestralia Day me and Marigold carried on after and tried to get in to Walkabout to celebrate in our already innebriated state. The queue outside was huuuuge, but we managed to get in straight away after telling them where we worked*. The inside was PACKED, there were yellow shirts and sombreros everywhere. Being the responsible person I am I asked the barman for a coffee to sober up, but he didn't understand and gave me a be-eer instead. And it was expensive too; 900 dolleridoos! More of those and I started talking to randoms in an Aussie accent. Can't have been too authentic though, as most people there thought I was talking like that because I suffered a partial stroke. B'oh. Someone wrapped an Australian flag around me at one point (did it always have the word 'Fosters' on it?) and got my work clothes covered in lager and mud. It was a great night, I can't wait to celebrate Rand McNally Day next! ![]() ![]() ![]() * We snuck in the back door Leave a comment ::
