Looking Back

And here it is... the last day of 2006. I'm quite sad to see this year end, it's been one of the best of my life. It's been one of the biggest ones for changes too. I can't believe at the start I was pretty much jobless, broke and generally unhappy, and I'm finishing it in a job I really like and content.

Summary:

* Got a job in Edgware where I was in an office surrounded by women. Sounds pretty cool, but in reality it was pretty awful. They really bugged me and I hated the work. Worst of all we had no internet or email! in 2006?! I ask ya... Anyway I didn't stick that one out for too long- "work was hard so we quit"

* After that debacle I temped at Metronet which was absolutely brilliant. I met some really cool people who I loved hanging out with at work and after on some pretty mad nights out. Can't believe the party was busted by Ben Fong Torres, but it had to end some time. Just for them, here's The Ultimate Showdown

* Gigs! One of my new years resolutions was to go to more gigs this year, and that I did. I managed to average one a month, and the best was seeing We Are Scientists at Astoria in April. Introduced Doughie to the world of rock when we saw The Rakes. Heard of and then saw Mates of State!

* Took a trip with the lads to Amsterdam which was hella fun. As with previous trips, certain phrases were used to death (Amsterdam is very liberal, hence everything there is liberal; "This cup of coffee is very liberal" and so on). It also saw the birth of thumbing.

* I now have 4 eyes

* The Waddy Stag Weekend in Prague. It was messy. I still don't think I've quite recovered, it's a wound I'll have to carry for life like Frodo's shoulder.

* On a related matter, giving up alcohol (albeit temporarily). Fine, I didn't stick with it for too long, but it had a lasting effect; I can go out and have a good time without drinking if I choose to.

* Watching a lot of World Cup, including Argentina vs Mexico in Strawberry Moons.

* Going to Keith and Amy's wedding. What a lovely pair those kids make.

* Another New Forest weekend! This annual tradition is always great fun, and this year didn't let us down. Highlight was Chufty getting lost in the forest in the dark and having to be rescued! I also enjoyed trouncing Doughie in all competitions and winning implied award of Alpha Male. Kat's friend and her drunken rants were also really amusing.

* Taking our Canadian friends around London.

* The Waddy Wedding. Expectations were high, and they were well exceeded.

* Bar codes

* Going to the Sopranos premiere (and meeting Miriam!)

* Going out in London much more. This is something I've been able to do much more when I've worked in the city, and Metronet/bar codes has allowed me to do it this year. As well as the usual hang outs, I've had some great times going to Belushi's after work and meeting randoms around the west end. We also started going to more rock nights, like First Friday, Frog and NME which have all been brilliant.

* Oxford trip and going to Zodiac.

* J's birthday in Leamington

* The company AGM

* Blogging. I didn't do it much in the past, but now I've got a lot more into it. I've also got into other blogs (see bottom of the page for links) and reading about other peoples lives and opinions. It's hard to explain why it's so appealing, but I really enjoy it.

* Outlook. The biggest event of all this year is my change in my outlook on life. I've undergone a lot of introspection with regard to things like morals/ethics/religion and all that stuff, and I think I've become 'me' rather than carrying around other peoples opinions. I've also taken steps to resolving issues that have bugged me, like going out alone (went to my first solo gig!).

Overall, a great year. It'll be remembered fondly.

I hope 2007 will be a great year for all of you.

I feel a tremor in the Force... is that an indication that 2007 will be a good one... or did someone just fart?
