Nuclear Panner Plant

Well, it has been a while hasn't it? Well actually no, only about a week, but I've kinda got used to posting more. Right, so, this past week has been interesting. Had a thoroughly deserved day off on Monday so spent it reading and drinking copious amounts of green tea. These are two things that are part of the year of the self-improvement, and whilst I haven't noticed any special powers from drinking it, I have noticed I haven't actually been ill since I started (going on two months now). If I can make it through the whole of winter without any sort of illness then I'll have a Bruce Willis Unbreakable attempt at fighting crime. The best thing is everyone around me at work have taken loads of days off through illness which makes me look good. Which is difficult.

Speaking of which, Thursday was time for my Introduction to Barcodes training day! Some SAS type people broke into the house at 4am, put a sack over my head and shoved me in a van where I was dropped off in a remote forest- startled and shivering in my Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors pyjamas.

And so the training began.

We were taught about the basics of barcoding, the symbols, scanners, and then had our heads shoved under water for 30 seconds and forced to run an assault course. It wasn't all bad, the special store room containing the holy Meeting Room Biscuits was opened up and I got to stuff my face with bourbons. Mmmmmm....

A quick change of clothes later and I met up with Vic in All Bar One. I hadn't seen her in aaaaages so we caught up on the goss. I informed her of how TWO (count em) hen parties performed a citizens arrest on me in Strawberry Moons by handcuffing me to the brides, to which she said "Well, you are quite pickable".

Quite pickable!

That's possibly the nicest thing ANYONE has ever said to me! I'm seriously considering getting it printed on a t-shirt.

After the bar we headed off to Kings Cross to gig it up. I'm not sure how, but I'd never been to the Scala before. WOW, what a venue! It's not too big, and there loads of standing places on different levels. On came the support band Absentee, and I quite liked them. The singer's vocal stylings really reminded me of someone else, but can't figure out who.

Then it was time for the main course, The Broken Family Band! I'd only heard of them because the Concretes tickets I got off eBay were being sold by a guy who wanted to see BFB instead, so I thought they must be worth a listen. I liked them, and there I was on Thursday seeing them live.

They're a strange lot; they play a weird indie/country style of music, they kinda reminded me of The Crocketts but a lot less punky. The frontman was high-larious, he came out with many deadpan Jack Dee style comments.

Why not click on the pic below to have a listen of their songs?

I heard the new Kooks songs
Ooh La the other day. There was something bugging me about the way they were singing; a couple of times they ended with a fading inflection. Where had I heard someone sing like that before?

And then it struck me; Jimmy from South Park!

Let's have a listen:

Ok, so it may not be
exactly the same, but there's a suggestion of similarity.

The journey into work is pretty much the same every day, and mostly revolves around reading the Metro. Pick up the paper from the station, read two pages on the platform, get on train, keep reading until I reach the adverts, by which point it's time to change trains and flip over to the sports pages. Finish on the horoscopes just as I arrive at my destination, then chuck the paper away over my shoulder.

But wait! The usually vague predictions were strangely specific that day:

"Who loves ya, baby?" was the catchphrase of a TV detective in the 1970s. Someone loves you. And they're about to tell you. If you have another half, you know who it is. If you don't, watch this space...

Number of people who said they love me since Friday October 13th 8.47am:

Waaaaaaah!!!!
