Edit THIS

A fairly mundane Thursday was transformed into a potentially awesome Thursday when Tanna ringed me up on the hollerphone and offered a spare ticket to go see The Editors. Editors... Editors... Why did that gig sound familiar? Wait a minute... BIFFY CLYRO were meant to be playing there too! Finally, a chance to see the band whose songs I've claimed ownership of when reflecting about certain someones these past few years.

A quick(!) train to Brixton, a quicker drink down The Goose and there we were, just in time to see the Biffy come on stage. And how fantastic they were too. They rattled off some old tunes, some newer ones, and most importantly Justboy, which in one of the seven tracks in my Top Five All Time Songs. The Scottish outfit did good, and their loyal following in the mosh voiced their appreciation (even though they didn't play '27', how annoying).

After their 40-odd minute set drew to a close, it was time for The Editors to live up to the superb support act. I'm not really the biggest fan of theirs, the songs I've heard on the radio are ok I guess, but I was supremely let down. All the flashing lights and disco balls in the world were never gonna make up for the fact that they sounded like a bunch of Interpol wannabes. They were just so bland. If Biffy were a club sandwich, then The Editors were plain white bread with a glass of water on the side for dippin'. And it went on. And on. It can best be decribed by Jez from Peep Show:

It wasn't just the blandness that was annyong. Someone should point out to the guitarist that wearing a sleeveless shirt and bending your knees whilst swinging your guitar about doesn't make you Mick Jones. Being Mick Jones makes you Mick Jones. And the lead singer, please don't molest your face onstage, you're not Michael Stipe.

There was only so much we could take, and for the first time I can remember I left a gig before it had finished. Sorry, but that Subway sandwich was much more appealing!

Hooray! Not for you, obviously, but you can take solace in the fact that you've helped me decide that I shouldn't see Editors, having contemplated catching one of their gigs more than once over the last year or so.

I think that's called 'taking one for the team...'

Isn't Axel about 90 now, and looking a bit like Mick Hucknall?

Yeah, but luckily Mick Hucknall is about 120 now and looks more like Chucky from Child's Play.

Well that's all the Child's Play films ruined now...
