Great Unanswered Questions Of Our Time #644

Why is it that nobody admits to watching Neighbours? If you have it on in any public place you're guaranteed someone will walk in and say "Ooooh, Neighbours! I've not seen in YEARS!!!", yet the same person seems to know exactly who all the characters are. This week I've seen the same person walk into the kitchen at work and spout the usual "not seen it in years!!!1111" line exactly four times. I've also seen someone pretend they don't know what's going on when quizzed by a colleague, despite talking about it the previous day.

Is it really that much of a taboo?

OK, a lot of people don't watch it because they're either at work (sans TV) or think it's rubbish. Which it is. But considering a whopping 6m people watch it, it's bloody hard finding someone who does.

Here's a letter I received recently:

Dear skillz,

Recenly, I've felt the overwhelming urge to watch Neighbours, and now I find myself watching it up to twice a day. I know some of my friends watch it, but only a few times a week. I'm worried there might be something wrong with me, as I can't stop watching it. Am I a freak?

Wayne, 13

Well Wayne, if that is your real name, all I can say is that there's nothing wrong with what you're doing. You're at an age where you've got a lot of free time and your hormones are playing havoc on your body. The plots seem new and exciting to you. But as you get older you'll get bored of Toadies shenanigans or the latest 'troubled kid who ends up going straight', and you'll end up watching it a lot less.

Let's dispell a few myths:

1. Neighbours is a perfectly normal and healthy activity. Many people watch it, even if they don't admit to it.
2. Neighbours does NOT make you go blind.
3. Recent studies have shown men could reduce their risk of developing prostate cancer by regularly watching Neighbours.
4. Watching Neighbours helps you and your partner find out what makes you feel good.
5. Neighbours a great way of dealing with stress, and feels great!

Hope this info helps!
