A Festivus For The Rest Of Us

It's almost that time of year again! It's Festivus on December the 23rd, the holiday that does away with the commercialisation of Christmas. It's a non-demoninational holiday from an episode of Seinfeld and is now celebrated by a growing number of people.

The holiday was invented by Frank when he went shopping to buy his son George a Christmas present:

Frank Costanza: Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.
Cosmo Kramer: What happened to the doll?
Frank Costanza: It was destroyed. But out of that a new holiday was born . . . a Festivus for the rest of us!

Celebrating Festivus is quite simple. You need the following:

A Festivus Pole
A Christmas tree with decorations is not only expensive but annoying. As Frank said, "I find tinsel distracting". All you need for Festivus is an aluminium pole. It's low maintenance and has an impressive strength-to-weight ratio. You can buy one
here

The Airing of Grievances
You sit around with friends and family during Festivus dinner and each person tells everyone else how they have disappointed them in the past year. To help,
here's a sheet you can fill in to remind you of how much you dislike everyone else.

The Feats of Strength
A family member challenges another to a wrestle. Festivus is not over until someone gets pinned to the floor. Feats of Strength challenge cards are available
here.

Fake Christmas Presents
Some people who celebrate Festivus are discriminated against because they don't give Christmas presents to friends and co-workers, as Festivus is essentially a non-commerical holiday. To get around this, you can give 'fake' Christmas presents to people. The method of choice is giving someone a pretend charity card that says "A donation has been made in your name to The Human Fund: Money For People". The cost is practically nothing, and you can print out as many cards as you like from
here.

There's some more information available on Wikipedia
Get planning, Festivus is only a few weeks away!!
